WOMEN’S issues are very important in Bermuda — that’s why Government has appointed the first-ever 15-member Women’s Council.

Culture Minister Neleetha Butterfield announced the scheme Monday. She pledged that the Council will focus on outstanding women’s issues.

The Council’s mandate will be to empower women to work together toward improving the quality of life for women, families and society, said Ms. Butterfield.

It is expected that the group will urgently examine the findings of a 1997 women’s issues report looking at equal pay, maternity leave, sexual harassment in the workplace, marriage licenses and violence against women.
