BERMUDA’S Autism awareness campaign has received a $6,000 boost from two community-based companies.

Ashley Aitken of Oxford Communications presents BASE president Jenny Purvey and committee member Wayne Smith with a cheque for $6,135 donated from proceeds of the Bermuda Music Festival ticket sales.

The check came from Kingdom Entertainment Group and Oxford Communications, producers of the 2010 Bermuda Music Festival, to Bermuda Autism Support & Education (BASE).

A matching donation of $6,135 was made to U.S.-based advocacy group, Autism Speaks, as part of the producers’ pledge to donate a minimum of $10,000 from the proceeds of the Bermuda Music Festival ticket sales to autism charities.

“We are proud to make this donation to help BASE in their mission to raise awareness for autism in Bermuda,” said Jim Kerwin, Oxford Communications Agency Director.

“It is the commitment of both Kingdom Entertainment Group and Oxford Communications to involve ourselves in the communities where we do business, and it’s our pleasure to give back.

“Our thanks also to the Bermuda Music Festival fans who helped to make this possible.”

Meanwhile, Jenny Purvey, President of BASE, said: “We are extremely grateful to Kingdom Entertainment Group and Oxford Communications for this generous donation.

“Having autism associated with such a high profile event as the Bermuda Music Festival can only help raise awareness and understanding of autism in Bermuda throughout the community.”

B.A.S.E. is a community-based, non-profit organisation that provides autism-related information, referral, advocacy and training.
