Gavin Manders and Cayla Cross take Argus Open tennis titles
(Hamilton, Bermuda, July 23, 2011) – The finals of the annual Argus Open tennis tournament were played today at the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium. The Men’s Open Singles was won by Gavin Manders after an exhilarating playoff against Jenson Bascome for the title (6-4, 6-3). Cayla Cross claimed victory over Catherine Cooke in the Ladies’ Open Singles (6-3, 3-6, 7-5). Erwin Leader took the Senior Men’s Singles title against Christopher Bardgett (6-1, 6-2). Meanwhile Jenson Bascome and Gavin Manders reigned supreme in the Men’s Open Doubles category over Alex Cooper and Jack Keyes....

A JURY today acquitted Leo Burgess, 17, on the charge of aggravated burglary of the Southampton home of Greg Wilson and on the charge of unlawful firearm possession by a minor. ZBM News reports tonight that out of the 12 jurors, nine voted to acquit while three dissented. Burgess, of Cambridge Road, walked from court a free man following the decision. He was in the company of family and friends, some of whom had been crying hysterically in court during the verdicts.
