The Argus Group today announces it has made a donation to PRIDE Bermuda to expand the PATHS initiative as part of the Student Assistance Programme.

PRIDE Bermuda offers the Student Assistance Programme in public schools across the island. It covers life skills, social skills, drug information and how to deal with peer pressure.

The PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) Programme enhances social and emotional skills for students from ages 5 to 10 that includes anger management, problem solving and fostering good relationships. With the rise of grief and death in our community, PATHS helps students build basic coping skills. The programme was first launched at Northlands Primary School. The Argus donation enables PRIDE to offer PATHS at Elliott Primary School.

Judith Burgess, Executive Director of PRIDE Bermuda, says: “We are extremely grateful to the Argus Group. With the funding they have donated to us, we have introduced the programme at Elliott. We feel that the programme is particularly important for younger students who aren’t sure how to process their emotions. We believe that learning to cope with emotions such as sadness, anger, grief and loss at an early age is key to minimising social issues later in life, whether it’s due to a shooting, death or even divorce.”

Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer, The Argus Group, comments: “We are pleased to assist PRIDE Bermuda with their Student Assistance programme. We recognise that increasingly, children face  difficult situations that they need to find a positive way of coping with in today’s world. We believe that the PATHS programme provides children with the tools that they need at an early age to help them in later life.”
