Marsh and Guy Carpenter today made a $2,000 donation to Focus Counselling Service (Focus), a substance abuse intervention agency. Focus is a charity dedicated to helping adults who suffer from addiction. The organisation offers three phases of assistance: a walk-in outreach clinic, in-patient treatment and supportive living residency. The Marsh donation supports the latter two components.

Focus operates an in-patient treatment centre to help patients safely detox. For individuals who complete this phase, Focus also provides supportive residency, a live-in structured environment designed to support the reintegration of former substance abusers into society as clean and productive members of the community. People living in the supportive residency perform community service and are assisted with job searches and offered counselling, as needed.

“Focus offers people living with addiction a solution to get clean and to improve their life,” said David Ezekiel, Country Corporate Officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Bermuda and Chairman of Marsh’s Bermuda Charity Committee. “We applaud Sandy Butterfield, the Founder and Executive Director of Focus, and her team for their dedication to this cause and encourage anyone who may need their assistance to reach out to the group.”

“I am grateful and honoured that Marsh and Guy Carpenter have kindly donated to Focus Counselling Service. We work hard to provide the best treatment and supportive residence to individuals who are making an effort to live a drug free lifestyle, and this donation will help us in our effort to do so. Thank you from the Board and members of Focus Counselling for this donation and for believing in the work that we do,” said Leonard L. Astwood, Board Chair of Focus.

Focus is open seven days a week. On average, there are between 15 and 40 adults who spend time at the walk-in facility each day, up to 12 adults at a time undergo live-in treatment and up to 21 adults occupy the supportive residency.
