The Argus Group today announces it has made a donation to PALS, an organisation dedicated to providing cancer patients with quality care primarily in the home setting. At any given time, PALS nurses, volunteers and caregivers provide homecare for more than 100 cancer patients.

On average, about ten new patients each month are referred to PALS by physicians and family members. When a patient is referred to PALS, a nurse visits the individual at home for an initial assessment to determine the patient’s specific needs. PALS provides services and amenities to patients free of charge. Amenities provided by PALS may include an electric bed, walker, wheelchair or anything else a cancer patient may need to improve his or her quality of life. Services include nurse visits, transportation to medical appointments, support liaising with insurance providers, the coordination of services such as Meals on Wheels and financial assistance, considered on an individual basis, for those patients who travel to receive treatment.

Karen Dyer, Executive Director of PALS, says: “Living with cancer can be emotionally and financially demanding. To truly be a support network, it is important that our services be accessible and thanks to generous donors like Argus, every service that we offer is free of cost to our patients.”

PALS will work with any cancer patient in Bermuda, regardless of age or stage of the disease. PALS employs five nurses and has approximately 75 volunteers working with the organisation.

Michelle Jackson, Executive Vice President, Group Insurance of the Argus Group, says: “At Argus, we focus on ways to improve the healthcare of our customers, including individuals living with cancer. PALS shares our vision of making life with cancer more manageable. It is our pleasure to support the organisation and we thank them for the valuable service they provide to cancer patients in Bermuda.”
