Fairmont Hamilton's special weekend events

IN CELEBRATION of the 125th anniversary of The Fairmont Hamilton Princess, spies, royalty and colourful characters will come to life as the hotel once again opens its doors for its popular history tour over the Bermuda Day Weekend.
Over the holiday, the hotel will also commemorate its landmark anniversary with the release of six limited edition works that include handcrafted jewelery, Bermuda jams, rum cakes, note cards, scarves and an anniversary cocktail.
The history tour of the grand hotel will take place on Saturday, May 22 at 2pm and will be led by popular Bermuda tour guide and historian Tim Rogers.
The tour, which lasts about 45 minutes, will take participants as far back as the late 1800s when personalities and world events irrevocably shaped the history of the hotel and the country.
In turn, the local community has always played a key role in shaping life at the hotel.
This fact inspired general manager Jon Crellin to engage local artisans to create limited edition works in honour of the hotel’s 125th anniversary.
“Creativity and ingenuity have fueled Bermuda for centuries and the same is true of this hotel,” says Jon Crellin, general manager of The Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
“Inviting our local artists to interpret the hotel’s anniversary seemed especially fitting and allows us the privilege of showcasing their talents.”
Jewellery artist Jacquie Lohan has hand-crafted cufflinks and a pendant from Bermuda cedar and sterling silver, Bermuda Jam Factory’s Joel McDonnell and Grant Kennedy have produced a grapefruit-based jam named for the hotel, while the paintings of six fine artists have been compiled in a set of note cards featuring scenes painted at the hotel.
Geralyn Counsell has designed and produced hand-painted pink silk scarves featuring hibiscus to commemorate the hotel’s anniversary.
In addition, Linda Horton and her daughters of The Original Horton’s Bermuda Black Rum Cakes will introduce a pink rum cake dedicated to the hotel.
A hotel employee has also contributed his talents: long-time Fairmont Hamilton Princess bartender Lee Tucker has created The Princess Royale, an anniversary cocktail featuring Bacardi Razz, Chambord, lemon juice, white cranberry and grenadine.
The jewelery, scarves and note cards will be available in the hotel’s Windjammer II Gallery, the jam and rum cake at the hotel’s gift shop and wherever Bermuda Jam Factory and Bermuda Rum Cakes are sold.
The Princess Royale cocktail will be served daily at the Heritage Court.
The Saturday, May 22 history tour is free and open to the public. Reservations for the tours are not required and participants should meet in the lobby.
Those wishing to stay for the hotel’s 125th Anniversary Afternoon Tea with Champagne are asked to call 298-5779 for reservations and information.
Additional history tours will be held on June 19, July 17 and August 14.
