CableVision helps deaf customers
BERMUDA — Thursday Oct. 8, 2009 — [Bermuda Wired]: HEARING-IMPAIRED cable TV subscribers are now able to receive dedicated customer service using specialized equipment.

Bermuda CableVision Ltd. has launched the service. It follows long-held complaints from the Bermuda Islands Association of the Deaf [BIAD] that deaf customers were not adequately served.

Central to the new service is a dedicated phone line: 296-0034. The installation of a teletypewriter system enables CableVision representatives to communicate with and assist the hearing-impaired.

Terry Roberson, General Manager of the company says: “With the launch of this new dedicated service, CableVision's Customer Care staff can provide improved assistance to these customers, who may wish to ask questions about our services, inquire about the status of their account, or discuss any other matter of concern.

“To implement this initiative, we have been working with the BIAD, and we encourage members of the public to get to know this association and the services they provide.

“We're now looking forward to offering this new dedicated option as part of our ongoing commitment to improving customer service.”

With this system, the conversation is typed rather than spoken and direct communication is possible with anyone who has a similar device.

The Bermuda Islands Association of the Deaf (BIAD) offers this equipment for purchase to the hearing impaired and can be contacted via their email address,

CableVision began planning for the launch of this new service several months ago, working with the BIAD, which provided the specialized equipment and training.

During the past several weeks, the company has been installing and testing the equipment to ensure its customer care associates are fully prepared to use the new system.

The new service for the hearing impaired will be accessible from Monday through Friday from 8.30 a.m. to ¬7 p.m.
