Published by Admin on October 20th, 2009
BERMUDA -- Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 -- [Bermuda Wired]: ONE way Government is celebrating the island’s 400th anniversary is through the promotion of Bermudian culture via Government grants.

Minister of Culture The Hon. Neleetha Butterfield announced at a news conference yesterday, the commencement of the Cultural Legacy Fund, describing it as a tangible commitment to the development and promotion of Bermuda’s culture.

Grant applications are being welcomed and Government is in the process of determining successful candidates the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will thoroughly examine how each application matches the goals of the Cultural Legacy Fund.

The Fund’s criteria stipulate that grant seekers must foster excellence in culture, heritage and the arts. Ms. Butterfield said of the scheme: “Therefore, this initiative will facilitate development and growth in culture, heritage and the arts.

“The goal of the Fund is to encourage innovation across the full spectrum of culture and the arts and to provide opportunities for Bermudian artists.

“The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs believes this event will raise the quality of Bermuda’s cultural, heritage and arts scene and raise its stature in the community.”

While Bermuda already has a thriving arts community, the Cultural Legacy Fund hopes to further encourage more creativity and innovation in this area and raise the bar of Bermuda’s culture and heritage through training and development opportunities.

The deadline for application for the Fund in the 2009/2010 fiscal year is November 9th, 2009.
