THE BERMUDA ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPANY IS URGING CAUTION BY MOTORISTS IN THE AREA OF BARRY ROAD, ST. GEORGE’S, AS ITS CREWS CARRY OUT NECESSARY WORK. CREWS WILL BE OUT ON THE ROAD TOMORROW, BETWEEN 9 A.M. AND 5 P.M. NEAR AL–MEE–DEAS FARM AND FORT SAINT–CATHERINE. BELCO ADVISING MOTORISTS TO AVOID THIS AREA, IF POSSIBLE. DETOUR SIGNS WILL BE IN PLACE SOON. THE COMPANY THANKS THE PUBLIC IN ADVANCE FOR THEIR CO–OPERATION.

Power outages planned for Church Road, Southampton on Saturday

IF you live on Church Road in Southampton, expect your electricity supply to be temporarily unavailable Saturday. The Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO) is calling the disruption an emergency and says it chose Saturday to minimize school disruption during the week. Power in the area will be disconnected starting October 9, at 9 a.m. and will be restored by 5 p.m. Here are the affected areas: St. Anne’s Church Church Road Turtle Bay Lane. [9 p.m. UPDATE] Around 1,500 still waiting for power restoration

MORE electricity customers now have power in their homes thanks to continuing Hurricane Igor restoration efforts being carried out by BELCO. Hurricane Igor, now in the history books, battered the island over the weekend with winds speeding at nearly 80 MPH. Thankfully it caused no deaths or injuries and left mild damage. BELCO’s Susand McGrath-Smith reports that as of 9 p.m. Wednesday night, just 1,580 customers were waiting for their power back — down from 2,800 at the start of the day.
