TWO men, due to stand trial for conspiring to bring almost $1 million worth of drugs into Bermuda have admitted to one of the charges. Kenneth Butterfield, 33, and Kyle Ingham, 25, pleaded guilty this morning to importation of controlled drugs (cannabis and cocaine) between an unknown date and November 2, 2008. A 46-year-old Canadian woman was charged this morning in Magistrates’ Court with importing $1.7 million dollars worth of cocaine and cannabis into Bermuda. Media reports say that Janet Grant was charged with the offenses. It’s alleged the contraband was concealed inside of her hand-luggage on board an arriving flight at the airport last Thursday. Specifically, Grant allegedly had $1.4 million in heroin, $370 thousand in cocaine, plus an amount of cannabis. She was not required to plea because the case is going to the Supreme Court. AN arriving passenger on a commercial flight at the LF Wade International Airport Thursday, was arrested on suspicion of importing drugs. ZBM News reported Friday night the drugs were reportedly found inside of the passenger’s hand luggage. That passenger is currently in Police custody and awaiting a court appearance early next week. In a separate incident, reports have been recived of two Bermudians women being plucked off a Continental Airlines flight at Newark Airport in New Jersey on Thursday. A Paget man is $70 out of pocket after a Magistrate fined him for pressing eight unrestrained passengers into his car. ZBM radio reported today that Kenneth Williams, 63, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to the charge of Carrying Passengers in an Unlawful Manner, occurring on August 14. According to Prosecutor Tawana Tannock, Police conducted a traffic stop of the man and found six children and one adult in his back seat, plus one adult and a child in the passenger seat.
